Makeup artist Elie Maalouf gives tips on achieving an utterly pretty look

LIPS

Lip Balm
Dry, chapped lips can really flatline a face. Get a smooth smile by starting out with a moisturizing balm. Try this: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, $22.50.

Concealer
Concealer can double as a lip-prep product (it goes on post-balm) to provide an even-toned base for your gloss. It also increases your color's staying power. Dab on a thin layer with a lip brush. Try this at home: L'Oréal Paris True Match Concealer, $8.95.

Lipstick
Pucker up with sheer colors; matte lips tend to overpower your face. Shimmer is sensational, but too much gloss can look cheap. If you want to use a liner, choose the same color as your natural lip. Try this: Guerlain Kiss Kiss in Rose Florida, $27.
