Makeup artist Elie Maalouf gives tips on achieving an utterly pretty look

EYES

Eye Shadow
Invest in a compact with complementary colors. Apply the sheer base from lash line to brow, brush the medium hue on the lid and blend with the light color. The darkest hue goes in the crease. Try this: Estée Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad in BlueSmoke, $35.

Highlighter
After eye shadow application, use a hint of silver (for cool-toned brides) or gold (for warmer skin) highlighter in the inner corner of the eyes to brighten and accentuate their shape. Try this: Benefit Eye Bright, $18.

Eyeliner
Follow highlighter with a thin stroke of a pencil (on the upper lash line and below the lower lashes) for quiet drama. Keep your chin up when applying. Novices should leave liquid liner to the pros. Try this: Bourjois Automatic Eyeliner Pencil in Noir, $13.

Mascara
The finishing touch: Cast a downward glance as you wave the wand; wait a few seconds between coats to prevent clumping. Try this: Clarins Wonder Waterproof Mascara in Wonder Black, $23.50.
