Knee highs

Hosiery reaching from the toe to below the knee; held up by elastic tops (rather than garters).

Matte

Stockings or pantyhose with a lusterless finish.

Opaque

Thick, informal hosiery.

Pantyhose

One-piece, waist-high garment consisting of panty and stockings.

Reinforced

Portion of hosiery (most often the toe) made more durable with heavy yarns.

Sandalfoot (or Sandaltoe)

Portion of hosiery (most often the toe) made more durable with heavy yarns.

Seamless

Hosiery with no visible seaming.

Sheers

Semi-transparent hosiery.

Stockings

Close-fitting, elastic hosiery that covers the foot and lower part of the leg. Requires garter or garter belt; best for dropped-waist wedding dresses.

Thigh-highs

Hosiery that reaches from toe to thigh. Held up by sewn-in elasticized bands; garter belt optional.

Tights

Thick hosiery worn in winter.
