The Trend: Modern "Princess"

Puffy sleeves and Basque waists used to be what brides would get when they asked for "princess" gowns. This past decade, Reem Acra set a new standard by creating opulent dresses with slimmer skirts, strapless necklines and artfully executed beaded bodices. Over the years, several of the designer’s wedding gowns have embraced these characteristics, as shown in the example at left—if you’re a "princess" bride, this is probably the look you want (the "Cinderella" reference point is long gone).
