Want your 'maids to choose their own style? Take a cue from bridal parties that mastered the mismatched look.
For decades brides thought they had to dress their bridesmaids in a uniform look that may or may not suit their girls' personal style. Long gone are those days! More brides and their 'maids are opting to go for a mismatched bridal party — whether it's a combo of colors, silhouettes, fabrics, or all three.
There's absolutely no reason why your girls can't choose their own style. After all, while this is your day, you want your closest friends and family to feel comfortable and have a great time, right? With the freedom to choose a style that suits them, your girls will focus less energy on the uncomfortable neckline or short hemline and more on ensuring you have the best day of your life. Not to mention, a mismatched bridal party, if done right, looks awesome.
There are many options when it comes to a perfectly coordinated yet uncoordinated bridal party. You can have your girls simply choose a silhouette that works for their body type — all the while choosing a color, designer, and fabric that fits your wedding's color scheme — or you can give them very general instructions such as "pick a bold color."
If you're nervous about your girls looking too hackneyed, offer some silhouette, hemline or color restrictions. Having them stay in the same fabric family is helpful as well. On the other hand, having your girls show up in an array of materials makes for interesting mixture of textures that will pop in photos. It all comes down to what you're comfortable with!
