The best cake designers find inspiration in the most creative and unusual places. Kelsey Robinson of The Whole Cake says the cascade of sugar flowers on this lemon-lavender-and-strawberry cake was inspired by a swim cap from the 1960s that was decorated with textured flowers. The centers of each gumpaste blossom were dry-brushed with edible paint for the slightest touch of color.
