A Four-Tier, Brown Fondant Wedding Cake

There's a reason so many couples exchange chocolate on Valentine's Day. It's delicious, it boosts endorphins, and it's widely thought to be an aphrodisiac. With that in mind, we're surprised that it's still a unique choice for a wedding cake! While white—utterly classic, versatile, and a foolproof choice—is the most common wedding cake color, we think cakes in deep, rich tones convey serious, heart-fluttering romance.

The following dark-colored wedding cakes—warm chocolate browns, sophisticated black tones, midnight blues and cool grays—will wow the crowd at any type of wedding reception, but we think these buttercream and fondant confections are particularly suitable for a winter wedding. You don't need a bold color palette to make these cakes work; just let the pretty cake make a statement all on its own.

This four-tier AP Signature Cakes chocolate fondant creation gets a pop of color with bright red hand-crafted sugar poppies. We love how the cascading flowers make the sophisticated cake playful enough for a whimsical afternoon soiree.
