A: Generally, the cake cutting takes place about two hours into the reception. Most parties are approximately four hours long, so your guests are probably accustomed to continuing the celebration after dessert. To make sure your intentions are clear, have the band leader or dj announce you'd like the party to continue and ask him to immediately follow the cake cutting with a song that will get everyone up and back out on the dance floor.
