Robin Rotenier, New York, NY

"I wanted our engagement ring to reflect not just my aesthetic, but also my fiancée's personal style. She's an art curator, and collects Danish furniture from the 1930s, which features clean lines. Instead of a traditional diamond, I decided to use a 2.21-carat tanzanite. I'd owned the stone for years, but never found the right client. I wanted the ring's design to be a hybrid between modern and classic—something that looks like an estate piece at first, but upon closer examination reveals modern touches, like a wider shank and sharp angles. I tried to make the setting look delicate even though I was using heavy platinum."
