Basic How-tos

How to Shop for Wedding Transportation

First, organize who needs a ride, when they need it, and where they are going. (We think all wedding-party members and parents should be chauffeured.) Next, factor in who will be needed for photos before and after the ceremony. And if you're providing transportation only to the wedding, figure out how everyone will be getting home.

1. STANDARD LIMOUSINE

Holds: 6 passengers. Perfect for: Transporting the bride and her parents to the wedding—and for some alone time for the bride and the groom after they're wed. Just be sure everyone riding to the ceremony with you will also have a way to get to the reception and back home again. Expect to pay: $300-$500 for four hours.

2. STRETCH LIMOUSINE

Holds: 8-10 passengers. Perfect for: Getting the bride, groom, and a small wedding party or a few family members to the wedding. Remember that a bride wearing a wedding gown with a full skirt can take up extra seats. Expect to pay: $300-$500 for four hours.

3. SUPER STRETCH LIMOUSINE

Holds: 14 passengers. Perfect for: The entire wedding party. Make this choice if you'd like a raucous ride to the reception. Expect to pay: $400-$700 for four hours.

4. SUV LIMOUSINE (EXCURSION, ESCALADE, HUMMER, ETC.)

Holds: 18-22 passengers. Perfect for: A more laid-back affair with a big party spirit. The SUV limo doesn't quite work for an ultraelegant wedding. Expect to pay: $700-$900 for an Excursion for four hours; $1,000-$1,500 for an Escalade or a Hummer for four hours.

5. CLASSIC OR EXOTIC CAR

Holds: 2-4 passengers. Perfect for: Making a romantic getaway. The Rolls-Royce is a very popular choice, as it is known to be the ultimate in luxury. Expect to pay: $450-$600 for four hours.

6. CLASSIC LIMOUSINE

Holds: 6 passengers. Perfect for: An upscale wedding, where the bride and groom want a few loved ones to ride along—or just to feel like a king and queen with plenty of space. Expect to pay: $450-$600 for four hours.

7. LIMO BUS

Holds: 15-20 passengers. Perfect for: Transporting guests from the airport to the hotel, to pre-ceremony activities, or from the ceremony to the reception. This choice is great for guests who have a trek from the airport, as the buses often have couch-like seating, and many are equipped with a TV, a DVD player, a stereo, and a full bar. Expect to pay: $600-$1,100 for four hours.

8. SHUTTLE BUS

Holds: 36-56 passengers. Perfect for: Getting guests anywhere they need to go. The driver can make multiple trips; ask if he or she can point out your favorite places to guests. Expect to pay: $400-$650 for four hours.
