Within the past two weeks, three of Hollywood's most high-profile women — Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston — hit the red carpet wearing dresses by Zuhair Murad. The red-hot haute couturier is not only known for his body-conscious gowns with beautifully intricate embellishments (think hammered metallic sequins and layers of plissé tulle), but he also designs incredibly gorgeous wedding dresses. His latest bridal collection features ceremony-ready ball gowns, with grand skirts that remove to reveal his signature close silhouette for the reception.
We recently caught up with the designer to hear about his bridal line, favorite red carpet moments, and the celebrities he'd love to dress.
Zuhair Murad finds designing a gown to be a deeply personal moment.
"The process of creating a gown is not only exciting, but extremely personal for me. It's a time when I can allow my imagination to take over, and I'm able to create pieces that reflect who I am as a designer, and more importantly as an artist," said Murad. "It starts with many full days with my team where we lay everything out on the table for review, pulling out different pieces of inspiration, discussing details, fabric samples, embroideries, swatches, and color palettes. It is a brainstorming phase and it is a singular world with no rules."
In his mind, a wedding is the most important day in a woman's life.
Asked about his favorite part about designing for brides, Murad explained, "There's a great pride that goes into designing a bridal collection. In my culture, one's wedding day is seen as the most important day in a woman's life. Her wedding gown is sacred — a stunning masterpiece that is to be remembered forever. I always try to remember this when designing our bridal collections."

"My pieces will always reflect a tangible understanding of elegant romanticism in contemporary lines, cuts, silhouettes and fabrics I select," said the designer. "In my latest bridal collection, each bride writes her own fairytale in an ethereal dress creating a romantic yet whimsical effect with a ball gown or very modern ones. Seduction is in the air with intricate lace, and muslin tulle embellished with beautiful and delicate appliqués. I also added some flirty sass by way of light organza ornamented with flowers, all embroidered with pearls and sequins."
The designer has more than one favorite red-carpet moment.
"It's hard to pick just one as it's always the biggest compliment when a celebrity chooses to wear one of my designs. Within the past few weeks, I've had some stunning women wear my designs such as Jennifer Lopez who wore a dress to the 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards and Jennifer Aniston who wore a dress to the 2014 Governors Ball — I am a very lucky man!" (Editor's note: Taylor Swift also hit the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show earlier this week rocking a killer white gown courtesy of the designer! See all three looks above.)
Believe it or not, there are still some celebrities he has not had the opportunity to dress ... yet!
When asked to share his dream clients, he said, "This is a tough one! Dressing Hillary Swank or Jessica Chastain would be a exciting and an honor for me. These women are classic, sophisticated, and elegant."
