Once you tie the knot, it can seem like it was ages ago that you were single and unattached and sometimes sensitivity to that life evades you. We've come to your rescue to avoid the dreaded "now you're married and obtuse" conversation. Here, the five things you should never say to your single friends.
1. "There are so many men out there, don't worry! You'll find the one soon."
It isn't just about the numbers — there are tons of available men out there, but finding a perfect match is no easy task.
2. "Start acting like a wife and then you'll find your husband."
If each marriage is unique, how does one go about "acting" like a wife? And being the most perfect version of yourself does not guarantee anything: love is unpredictable and unforeseen, after all, isn't it?
3. "Stop looking for love, it will find you."
How is this even possible? Have you seen The Bachelor? No, we wouldn't expect to fall in love with our sushi delivery guy, but even before he rings our bell, we're most likely thinking about relationships. There's nothing wrong with making it a priority and focus in our lives — hope is a very powerful thing and though we shouldn't let it completely consume our lives, a woman can dream!
4. "You're so amazing! I just can't understand why you're still on the market."
Your friend's response: "Funnily enough, I can't either ..."
5. "You should be so happy — I miss the single life!"
Are there benefits to the single life? Absolutely, but they aren't so clear when you're looking to start a family. Though marriage is work and every one has its tough points, knowing you have someone you love on your side at all times and who shares your same values is a pretty cool thing.
