Want to charm the pants off your guests? And show them your undying love and gratitude in the process? Learn how to write wedding thank-you notes that your guests will truly love. Yep, you can thank us later.
1. Include a photo
A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Although it's not always possible, destination wedding planner Michelle Fage of Paradise Planning, says including a photo from the wedding of you and the recipient of the card is such a nice touch for thank you notes. "If you have a smaller guest list, talk to your photographer ahead of time about making sure you capture a photo of all the guests with you and your spouse for use," she advises.
2. Do a first draft
Think on scrap paper. Write on note cards. That's what Stacey Agin Murray, author of The Organized Bride's Thank You Note Handbook, suggests. "This helps a bride get her thoughts in order and neatly written before writing on the thank you card," she explains. "It will eliminate most grammatical and penmanship mistakes and can be the perfect way to recycle that wrapping paper strewn across your living room."
3. Take your time
While you certainly don't want to take forever, you also don't want to be that bride who brags about writing 100 thank you notes in one weekend, warns Murray. Know yourself. "Are you more alert and creative in the morning or are you a night owl? Trying to pen thoughtful and personalized notes when you're not at your best will show in your writing." Instead, she recommends selecting a good time of day/week to do them and determining how many you can write well in one sitting. "Then pace yourself for the next few weeks or months."
4. Get specific
Woo them with your words, brides! To inject a little extra personalization in your thank you notes, think back to the wedding too, offers Murray. "Did the gift-giver wear something special? Did they create a handmade gift for you? Did they never leave the dance floor? Mention it in your note." You may not know everyone well enough to personalize each letter, but for those you can, it will be greatly appreciated.
