Our favorite registry items were definitely our kitchenware," says Lisa, a 39-year-old psychologist. She particularly loved the KitchenAid stand mixer and bamboo pot rack from Crate&Barrel, which "really made a difference in our space-challenged kitchen," while her husband, Ben, a 30-year-old computer animator, raved about a Breville blender that "can blend anything," he says.
Other favorite gifts included Calphalon cutlery, a food processor by Cuisinart, an All-Clad slow cooker, and bakeware from Williams-Sonoma.
The couple also registered for everyday dishes, as well as fine china and crystal stemware that's currently on display in a hutch in the living room. "We don't have much use for it now, as we don't entertain as often as we'd like because of space issues, but we know that in the future we'll be glad we have it," says Lisa. A lack of space also proved reason to return much of the specialty barware and table linens the couple received. As for what they wish they'd gotten more of: "Decorative gifts like picture frames and vases," Lisa says. "I think we didn't receive more of them because we had too many other items on our registries."
In addition to Williams-Sonoma and Crate&Barrel, the couple also registered at Macy's and Bloomingdale's and on Traveler's Joy, a site with a honeymoon registry that "allowed us to enjoy a wonderful trip to Bali that we wouldn't have been able to afford on our own," says Lisa.
But, with five registries, "I think people got overwhelmed," she says. "My advice would be to keep it as simple as possible for your guests and think carefully about what you truly need and will use regularly."
Favorite gifts were high-quality kitchenware items.
The couple registered for a honeymoon in Bali. "And we are so glad we did," says Lisa.
They love their fine china and think they'll use it more often when they move to a larger home.
Lisa and Ben would have preferred more decorative items, like frames. "I think we got a little 'gun happy' and ended up with a lot of little things we don't really need," says Lisa.
"We ended up returning most of the specialty barware, like margarita glasses and crystal decanters."
