New York—This morning Vera Wang hosted a lovely open house (complete with breakfast pastries) to show her bridal collection. "I wanted the dresses to be light and frothy, happy and young," she said. "The dresses are perfectly sewn, but imperfect." She meant that the pleating and ribbons and bows and lines were more organic and a bit asymmetrical. There was hand-painted organza and machine washed tulle which gave many of the dresses a very fresh feeling.
There was color too—beautiful light mint green with a pinkish underskirt, and a citron yellow—even a black gown, which had thin, vertical ribbon pleats running in a column.
In other news, she wants her customers to know that she was very conscience of price during this economy—even in her Luxe line, she kept the price point in mind when designing. The message was—don't be afraid to purchase a beautiful a dress because she has made a concerted effort to address price.—Michelle Preli
