With so many different online dating sites to click and swipe through, it often comes as a surprise when you hear of a relationship blossoming from, well, just a social-networking site. Take Atlanta couple Anuj Patel and Sumita Dalmia, who not only met on Twitter but also had a full-on Twitter-themed wedding to celebrate their marriage and honor the platform for connecting them in the first place. The result was an elegant affair with quirky touches that made the wedding extra special to the newlyweds.
The relationship started, naturally, with a tweet from Anuj about having an extra ticket to the then-upcoming Jazzoo music festival. Sumita replied a day later, and, well, the rest is history—or perhaps, more accurately, timelined on Twitter, as first reported by BuzzFeed. Because as you could imagine, replies turned into DMs, which moved to text messages and then the big IRL reveal, which worked; the couple's been together ever since.
When the time came for Anuj to propose, he incorporated Twitter clues to lead his soon-to-be fiancée to the reveal and the ring. Because the social network was so integral throughout their relationship, the couple decided to host a Twitter-themed wedding, and the results were absolutely beautiful, with an appropriate amount of whimsy. There were little blue birds throughout the affair, including unique Twitter touches on the programs and table numbers, bright azure signature cocktails, bird-shaped desserts, and hotel key cards that featured a photo of Anuj and Sumita wearing (what else?) T-shirts with the blue logo. "We wanted everything they touched to have a thought behind it," Sumita told BuzzFeed.
Let their wedding inspire your big day or perhaps help someone you know make the love connection in 140 characters or fewer. "Twitter is such a big part of our love story, because without it, we just wouldn't have found each other," Sumita said.
