Ever we since we spotted Allison Williams' totally stunning Oscar de la Renta wedding gown with it's couture illusion neckline, on Instagram, we've been dying for more details about her September 19th nuptials to College Humor founder Ricky Van Even. And this just-breaking tidbit is a bit of an unexpected — yet amusing — surprise: The Wyoming ranch wedding was officiated by none other than Reverend Tom Hanks! Yup, you read that right.
Hanks, whose wife Rita Wilson plays Williams' mom on their hit HBO show Girls, wed the longtime couple after getting ordained as a minister just for the ultra special occasion. "If you want to call me the Right Reverend Tom Hanks, I think you should," Hanks jokingly told Extra. Many soon-to-be-wed couples plan for a meaningful ceremony by having a special someone officiate. But, hey, what could be better for a lucky bride like Williams than having a close friend and two-time Oscar winner all rolled into one?
If you and your future hubby are planning on popping the "Will you marry us?" question to someone in your life, it turns out that the process of getting ordained isn't at all expensive, according to Hanks — it cost him less than 40 bucks! "I studied the divinity. I studied as a minister for nearly $35," he shared with E! "Out of that I have a certificate that makes me available for weddings."
Katy Perry and John Mayer, Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling, Bruce Springsteen, Andy Cohen, and of course, Williams' dad and famed news anchor Brian Williams all attended the Tom Hanks-approved ceremony. "I'm for rent," Hanks said of his newly ordained status. "If you can afford the honorarium, I'll be there for you." Think any celeb couples in attendance will be next?
