Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement photos were remarkable not just for their sophistication and the straight-on view of Kate's heirloom sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring, but also for the royal couple's palpable love.
Now, the photographer behind the gorgeous pictures, Mario Testino, is revealing the details of the famous photo shoot.
"I waited a long time, an hour or two, to make that picture perfect," Testino told The Telegraph of the first, more formal, portrait. "But I wasn't totally satisfied. Then, when I'd finished the shoot, they were about to leave and they suddenly hugged in front of a radiator. I took my camera and that was the picture that ran everywhere—it was spontaneous emotion...you could see they were completely in love."
Testino, being a world-renowned photographer, had the absolute right idea in capturing that candid moment. Getting good wedding or engagement pictures is all about acting natural and in love.
Wills and Kate aren't the only royals Testino has photographed. He got the opportunity to take their engagement pictures because of his successful photo shoot with Princess Diana for Vanity Fair back in 1997. When Kensington Palace put those photos on display in 2008, Testino met Kate for the first time.

According to The Telegraph, Testino saw then that Prince William was completely "in love with Kate," and explains, "I knew they would stay together."
The feeling was just as warm during their photo shoot two years later, too. When asked if the Duchess of Cambridge reminded him of Princess Di, Testino said, "Kate, she is beautiful in a different way: she radiates happiness. She is comfortable in her love."
That happiness certainly was on display in those amazing photos. So while you may not all be able to get Kate Middleton's perfect royal wedding dress at least now you know the secret to her engagement photo success: Let your love shine though.
Hey, if a prince and his fianceé can do it, then so can you!
