Obsessed. At least, I am with this midnight-blue bow tie from Lanvin. And while I'm aware that the velveteen goodness of this high fashion accessory costs a budget-crushing $315, I can't help but think it's just the thing for an over-the-top Las Vegas wedding. Think Golden Nugget. Think bedazzled Elvis. Think Viktor & Rolf's latest menswear collection, which showed a set of tuxedos attuned to 1970s outré glamour. Or the Moschino runway, which was similarly awash in bold formal wear options, including a shiny gold lamé tux.
To help couples visualize their ensembles as ensembles, we paired rule-breaking groom attire ideas with wedding gowns from the Spring 2012 season. After all, you're going to be photographed together (a lot), so your looks need to be in sync. If you're wearing Douglas Hannant's beaded column, he can pull off Lanvin's oversized bow tie with an electric-blue tux (and then all that's missing from your Vegas nuptials are the showgirls). But we didn't forget those of you with more classic or contemporary tastes. Our slideshow of inspirations also includes pairings ranging from traditional to relaxed to garden-appropriate to white-tie. Although, were it up to me, all grooms all the time would be wearing navy Lanvin velvet. Because I'm obsessed. —Phillip B. Crook
