Four months ago Mindy Kaling gushed about her ex-boyfriend and former The Office co-star B.J. Novak, stating that she would have married him had he popped the question. But it seems the tide has turned as The Mindy Project creator and star recently revealed that she is more than fine with never getting married in a new interview with Good Housekeeping.
Currently, the funny woman is enjoying dating and feels no pressure to walk down the aisle anytime soon. "When I was younger, I wanted so badly to be married and have kids in a rush," she told the magazine. "The way my father was with my mother when she was dying was so moving. It was such devotion. I don't know that that will happen for me, but I like it. I don't need marriage. I don't need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires. I can take care of them myself now."
Kaling also revealed her perspective on love changed once she turned 30 years old. "If I could relive the first three months of courtship over and over for the rest of my life, I would," she explained. "Especially in winter, who doesn't like a nice heavy seven-course meal with lots of alcohol, then making out when you're a little tipsy and taking a cab home to fall asleep in the clothes you wore on the date? Wait. Actually that was, like, my whole 20s. And it was very fun."
And though she may have had a change of heart about marriage, Kaling continued to show love for Novak in the issue. "I'm definitely not in the friends-with-my-exes camp, but B.J. has the stamp for life as a friend. He feels like family," Kaling said. The star also revealed that her late mother loved the actor, solidifying his special place in her heart.
Kaling plans on focusing on her career and her family in 2015. Most notably, she wants to embark on directing a romantic comedy (which we cannot wait to see!). "There's still so much I want to do. I feel lucky. I keep expanding my dreams," she said.
