Meet our latest real bride blogger, Lauren Scruggs, a former model and the founder and editor of LOLO Magazine, who overcame her own personal struggles after a plane accident. Lauren is giving us the inside scoop on planning her winter wedding to E! News *host Jason Kennedy! From finding her dream dress and managing her guest list to balancing work, her relationship and moving into a new home, Lauren is documenting every step of the big-day process for BRIDES. *
Planning a wedding is overwhelming for any couple, but things are especially hectic for Jason and I since we're prepping a Texas wedding from California and moving into a new home at the same time.
To be honest, planning my wedding is less stressful than decorating my new house! Our home is a blank slate, which is exciting and fun, but also a lot of work. And sometimes I almost forget we're preparing for a wedding because our planner Todd Fiscus has been such a huge help.
But part of making it all work is just taking everything one day at a time. Plus, I always try to remember that I'm so thankful to be marrying Jason. I know that this whole crazy wedding-planning process is just temporary and life won't be like this forever. We support each other and understand that we're in this together.
Since every engaged couple deals with some form of stress, here are my three tips for balancing life, work and wedding planning:
1. Remind yourself that this is an amazing time in your life. In a lot of ways engagement is harder than marriage. Remember everything will settle down soon, but this is such a short period of time so you should make the most of it.
2. Make everything fun. I think, as a girl, you can easily cause something very little (like bone vs. ivory or letterpress vs. embossed!) to become very stressful. I've watched myself do that and Jason helps bring me back down to earth by saying, "Hey, it's not that big of a deal!" And he's right!
3. Keep a positive perspective throughout everything. If something begins to feel overwhelming, just say to yourself, "This is the guy I'm going to marry, we want to be in this together."
