Same-sex marriage is pretty much all anyone can think about since the Supreme Court made it nationally legal on Friday — that is, for adults, at least. Jimmy Kimmel took an interviewer and a camera crew out on the street for his late-night talk show in the wake of the decision to see what kids have to say about the matter. As it turns out, their thoughts on love, marriage, and how it relates to gay and lesbian couples are a little bit sweet and a whole lot hilarious.
In asking the children if same-sex couples should be allowed to get married, the interviewer found that the issue isn't any more complicated or controversial than love and marriage itself, though it doesn't seem like they think about it much. Case in point:
"When should two people get married?" the reporter asked one child. "In the afternoon," the youngster responded. When another was asked why someone would want to get married, the boy answered, "Because they're pregnant."
The questions about gay marriage elicited similar matter-of-fact responses. One girl said that it's hard for some kids to understand the concept, but that it isn't for her. When asked if everybody should be able to get married, she said, "If you're old enough."
A different boy summed up his thoughts as, "If they want to [get married]", they should be able to."
One of our favorite responses, though? One boy's simple, "I know nothing about that yet," when asked about marriage.
