Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have really been letting their collective guard down on their seven-year marriage recently—and we enjoy their candor!
During a Monday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Urban chatted about the "tricky" business of being a father, a husband to an internationally famous actress, an American Idol judge, and a touring musician. When the conversation turned to staying in touch with Kidman when their jobs demand solo travel, he got adorably shy.
"We never text. We never email," the country singer said. "Phone calls only, which I really love." The one exception to the rule? "One of those kinds of texts. Yes, one of those ones with the accompanying photo."
When Ellen pressed him for more details, he responded saying, "Nice sex texting. I'm a little red right now."
No need to get red, Keith! With such demanding careers and two young daughters to raise, their commitment to romance is admirable. How else do you get to be one of our all-time favorite red-carpet couples?
For her part, Kidman shared an equally open account of their relationship in her cover story in December's Vanity Fair and revealed an intense devotion to family.
"I was so young," Nicole Kidman said on her marriage to Tom Cruise, whom she wed when she was 23 years old. "And you know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I've met my great love now."
Though Kidman called her marriage to Urban "very, very peaceful," she admitted that she struggles between "giving my life to my lover and my children" and "giving my life to my artistic desires." She added, "it's a push-pull. It's uncharted. My husband and I are in uncharted territory because we're trying to find artistic expression but also we're incredibly connected as a family—we're very, very tight, very, very close, and I have a very, very primal protection of my family."
If there was ever a secret to a successful, long-lasting relationship, Kidman and Urban really seem to be onto something. We appreciate their willingness to speak honestly about the effort they put into their marriage. We look forward to more pictures of the happy couple in the future!
