It's safe to say a lot has changed for the third-eldest Duggar daughter since her November 1 wedding to Ben Seewald. Jessa has already announced she and her husband of three-months have big plans to adopt, and now the pair are revealing even more intimate details of their relationship, including their marriage ground rules and an inside look at their newlywed home!
In a recent interview with People both Jessa and Ben broke down their four biggest relationship do's and don'ts. Despite their relatively short time as husband and wife, their tips are great for couples old and new.
Their do's: talk it through and set a budget. "It's important not to build walls or turn away from hard topics," Jessa says of the first cornerstone of their marriage. "Not like, 'I am going to take my feelings and close off from you and build a little wall there.' The 'I'm going-to-show-you-attitude' really hurts. It's always beset to open up and talk about things."
As for setting a budget, the money-savvy Duggar daughter has always been financially conscious, but now the couple wants to save money in order to give back. "We want to find a ways to give it to others who need help," Ben says of their philanthropic efforts.
The don'ts: yell or scream and skipping date nights. As far as the first goes, Jessa admits that raising voices is very uncommon in the Seewald home, but she also wants to be cautious about being unwilling to talk through problems out of fear of getting angry. Finally, the husband and wife share that bi-weekly date nights are important for maintaining their strong relationship. "Dates are investing in our marriage," Ben says. "That's a good way to spend our money."
When it comes to their house in Springdale, Arkansas, the two are also investing in making their first place a home. "Our house isn't really big, but it's big on love," Ben said. In the video below, the pair show off their new digs, including a picture they painted together on a date night and their "weird, beeping" refrigerator.
