In the How to Stay Present marriage advice series, the Kundalini guide behind Benshen, Desiree Pais, gives you the tools you need to stay focused and calm before, during, and after you tie the knot.
One of the biggest beauty tips is not a product, or a treatment, or a spa. It's something that you already have: confidence. Even if you don't feel confident right now, each and every one of us has the potential inside to feel confident and radiant—we just have to tap into it.
While it's one of the most special days of your life, the day you get married can cause you to put a lot of pressure on yourself to look and be a certain way. With all eyes on you, this pressure can lead to self-sabotage and treating yourself in not-so-kind ways. Instead of letting yourself go downhill, instead, use tools to build yourself up. Imagine if your best friend came to you feeling insecure—what would you say to him or her? Well guess what: I'm asking you to do the same for yourself...except in the mirror!
We spend so much time (and money) asking other people's advice and opinion. When's the last time you looked yourself in the eye and said something positive and empowering? The mirror is the place where most women pick themselves apart. Imagine how powerful it would be to do the opposite? Telling yourself daily how beautiful you are, what you like about yourself, and saying nice things to yourself can give you that extra boost of self-worth you need (even if it feels a bit corny).
Mirror work is simple, yet powerful and extremely effective in building both confidence and beauty that shines from the inside out. A simple exercise is every morning and evening, look at yourself in the mirror and say three nice things. It may feel awkward at first, it may cause tears to monsoon down, but after a few days, it will become your favorite thing in the world. You'll see yourself becoming brighter and more radiant than ever.
- I am beautiful.
- I love myself completely.
- I have beautiful skin.
- I love my body.
- I love my ______ (insert body part you love most).
- I love my ______ (insert body part you like least).
- I am confident.
- I am radiant.
- I accept myself completely.
