There's no rule that says you have to wear your hair up for your wedding day. We absolutely love loose waves — and Gigi Hadid's are our current favorite. We asked Kenna, one of her regular stylists, to tell us exactly how to get the supermodel's gorgeous look. (Disclaimer: Genetics plays a role of course, but your haircut does too. When you're at the salon, ask for long layers in the back with shorter, face-framing layers in the front, he says.)
Step 1: Wash well.
Use a shampoo and conditioner combo that enhances volume and texture, like Klorane Shampoo with Flax Fiber, and Conditioning Balm with Flax Fiber. And rinse thoroughly — leftover residue can leave your hair limp and greasy.
Step 2: Make it a little gritty.
Step 3: Blow dry like a pro.
Use a dryer with ionic technology — Kenna says it compresses the hair's cuticles to repel moisture and prevent frizz. He uses GHD Air. Separate your hair into one-inch sections, then slowly blow each portion smooth with a round boar-bristle brush. (Boar bristles evenly distribute your hair's natural oils to give you a shiny finish.) Try Moroccanoil 35 MM Boar Bristle Round Brush. As you finish drying each section, hit the cool shot button to help lock in volume at the roots.
Step 4: Add the waves.
To create them, use a styling wand, like T3 Whirl Trio. Beginning at the front, wrap two-inch sections of hair around the barrel. Twist some sections away from the face and some toward the face to achieve that undone look. And the top of the waves should start just above your cheekbones, which gives your face some lift, Kenna says.
Step 5: Make them last.
Finish with a light — and we stress light — application of hairspray. Spritz it about 10 inches away from your head while slightly lifting the waves to separate them. Try Tresemme Climate Control Climate Protection Finishing Spray.
