Once more, with extra feeling? Just one week after George Lucas married his girlfriend of seven years at his Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California, the newlyweds hosted another star-studded second celebration in Chicago, Hobson's hometown.
The couple decamped to a lakeside tent at Chicago's Promontory Point on the evening of June 29, where Prince performed with 22-piece band under an enormous tent. The high-profile guest list included Star Wars star Mark Hamill, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Graydon Carter, Tina Brown, Gayle King, Al Roker, Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Ne-Yo, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, and Robin Williams (who was spotted entertaining a small group!).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, guests who stayed at the Chicago Peninsula Hotel received gift bags filled with some of the couple's "favorite local flavors," which included chocolate cookies from Carol's Cookies, popcorn from Garrett Popcorn, and Marshall Field's Original Frango Mints. There were also Skywalker Ranch hats, T-shirts, and a tote.
It all sounds like a wedding to remember—not that Lucas and Hobson's first go-round was anything to sneeze at! On June 22, the pair, who announced their engagement in January, wed at Lucas' expansive estate in front of close family and friends including Oprah Winfrey, Ron Howard and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Former New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley gave away the bride. Lucas' son Jett served as best man, and Lucas' daughters Amanda and Katie were bridesmaids.
The rest of event's itinerary read like a who's who of the Hollywood power list: PBS journalist Bill Moyers officiated the ceremony, Van Morrison and Janelle Monae performed at the reception, Steven Spielberg gave the groom's toast, and Francis Ford Coppola read a poem by Maya Angelou.
Hobson, resplendent in a corseted, off-the-shoulder Peter Soronen wedding dress, seems to be a superb match for the prolific Star Wars mastermind—she heads the investment management firm Ariel Investments, contributes financial and economy analysis for CBS News, is chairman of the board at Dream Works Animation SKG Inc., and serves as a director of The Estée Lauder Companies, Groupon, and Starbucks Corp.
Even if you're not planning a wedding with this much high-octane glamour, we love the idea of hosting a second reception with loved ones who couldn't attend the main event. It's a festive, lower-stress way to share your wedded bliss and keep the celebration going!
