Some couples have a first-dance song picked out long before they get engaged: They might have had their first kiss to it, spent date night at the singer's concert, or identify with the tune's meaning. Others just want to sway to a romantic tune — and that's totally great, too!
We're always on the lookout for new first dance-worthy songs like Sara Bareilles's "I Choose You" or John Legend's "All of Me", but there's no better barometer of a song's value for a first dance than you, our loyal Brides readers! We reached out to our Twitter followers to find out their own personal first-dance songs, and the results were, unsurprisingly, amazing.
Bride @FriedGreenEmily's husband, a trumpet player, played the classic tune "Exactly Like You" with their wedding band during the reception. Bride @jmango82 (whose photo is seen above) loved her first-dance song, "A Drop in the Ocean" by Ron Pope, so much that she set it as her ringtone. We particularly liked @maisadhami's selection of "A Whole New World" from Aladdin — nothing says love like a classic Disney movie, right?
To help undecided couples, wedding DJ company @XYDJ offered its fresh suggestions: Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic," Ben Howard's "Only Love," and Finley Quaye's "Your Love Gets Sweeter."
For your own first dance ideas and listening pleasure, we created a special Spotify playlist of these songs. Grab your fiancé (or husband), press play, and get dancing!
