Skin-baring backless dresses are all the rage in the bridal world right now. They make a major entrance and exit that your guests will never forget. It's easy to fall in love with a dress that stuns from all angles, but after the purchase it's time to make that flawless back view a reality. Dermatologist Sonya Dakar and FitBrides Trainer Jason Keigher agree you can be backless-ready in three months with these sweat and skin care tips:
Mix up your workouts
According to Keigher, strength exercises need to be combined with cardio sessions and a clean diet free of processed foods to see results. Also, skip alcohol and drink exclusively water, lots of it. "Without toning up via cardio and healthy eating, you won't see the results from the back workouts," he says.
A good strength routine is key
Keigher recommends adding a strength routine three times a week with one rest day in between each workout. Use a weight you can lift 12-15 times with proper form. "Balance it out with bicep, tricep, shoulder and core exercises," Keigher suggests.
Don't hang out in your workout clothes.
Hop straight into the shower post-workout and wash off all the sweat and bacteria. "The longer that buildup sits on your skin, the more likely you are to have breakouts," Dakar warns.
Use an acne-fighting body wash.
Cleansers that contain salicylic acid or probiotics will treat your acne while preventing new blemishes from forming. Scrub lightly with a long handle body brush for areas you can't reach.
Exfoliate two to three times a week.
This whisks away dead skin cells that can lead to bumps. Dakar recommends dead sea salts that also contain special minerals to fight breakouts.
Don't forget to hydate.
Skipping this step can lead to dry, cracked skin. A lotion or oil is essential to help nourish and soothe your skin. It's all about picking the right oils, Dakar says, she likes omega rich flax seeds, antioxidant enriched grapeseed and fit and passion fruit oil.
Treat problem areas.
Apply a spot treatment that contains salicylic acid, probiotics and sulfur to acne to clear it up.
Wash your sheets once a week with a fragrance-free detergent.
"They might look clean, but sheets are a breeding ground for bacteria, skin cells and other germy microorganisms," Dakar says. Be sure to use the right detergent, for many with sensitive skin the perfumes and chemicals in detergents, fabric softeners and dryer sheets irritate skin and cause breakouts. Pick unscented and use dryer balls instead.
Skip hot showers and baths that dry out the skin.
Be gentle with skin by patting dry with a towel and avoiding heavy scrubbing.
