Nishka wore a traditional silk sari featuring aqua and gold embroidery. "I always knew I would wear a sari at my wedding, but I shied away from the traditional colors of white or red and gold because they didn't feel like me," says the bride. She paired the sari with a diamond heirloom pendant that had been worn by both her grandmother and her mother at their own weddings. Carl wore a custom pinstripe La Rukico suit and an aqua Thomas Pink tie.

The invitations were designed by Good on Paper. "The whole style of the wedding, including the stationery, flowers, and décor, was influenced by a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic," says the bride.

The 4 p.m. ceremony took place on the hotel's lawn, overlooking Richardson Bay. The bride's mother and father walked her down the aisle, and her brother officiated. "We wanted the ceremony to be personal—it wouldn't have felt right to have a stranger marry us," says Nishka.

Nishka asked her bridesmaids to wear outfits of their choosing in shades of aqua or red. Several decided to wear saris that the bride and her mother found at a store in Berkeley.

The reception took place in the Acqua Hotel's Richardson Room, which features floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the bay and Mt. Tamalpais. Simple arrangements of Gerbera daisies, dahlias, mini calla lilies, orchids, and tulips—grouped in small, aqua-colored vases—decorated the tables were designed by Nancy Liu Chin Designs. As favors, guests received slices of traditional Sri Lankan wedding cake (fruit cake covered in marzipan) packaged in aqua Chinese takeout boxes.
