Galin and Emily met when Galin moved to Pensacola from southern California to be the lead lifeguard for the Gulf Islands National Seashore. At the suggestion of her friend who had previously worked there, Emily decided to apply for a guarding position, a job for which Galin was recruiting.

Emily purchased her dramatic Maggie Sottero gown with embroidered flowers at Renee’s Bridal and Special Occasions in Pensacola. “I didn’t want to wear a strapless gown, so the tailors at the bridal salon used the sash that came with the dress to make lacy sleeves,” says Emily.

Galin rented his tux from Gent’s Formalwear in downtown Pensacola. His mother made his latte-colored vest and pink tie to match the bridesmaids’ gowns. Emily’s sister, Katie McHugh, a custom jewelry designer, used pearls and pale-pink stones to create the bride’s necklace and earrings.

The bridesmaids wore Belsoie by Jasmine Bridal dresses from Renee’s Bridal and Special Occasions in Pensacola. “The latte color looked great with my dress, but the dusty rose was flattering on two of my maids, so I decided to have both colors,” says Emily.

The reception was held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola, a short walk away from their ceremony site, McIlwain Presbyterian Church. The couple really wanted their guests to mingle at their casual party: “We spread out the food and drinks to encourage our guests to walk around more, and there was limited seating so everyone wouldn’t just sit around,” says the bride.

For the groom’s confection, Galin’s mother suggested they serve a sheet cake that resembled a Bible. Galin chose the romantic verse, and J’s Pastry Shop in Pensacola created the design, which echoed the tiered wedding cake.

In addition to their two cakes, the couple served petits fours to round out the dessert offerings for their 200-plus guests. J’s Pastry Shop in Pensacola concocted the wedding-ring and dove designs; the couple chose the pink-and-cream-colored sweet cakes to match their color scheme.
