- My fiancé's parents are making a financial contribution toward the wedding, but it's about half of what my parents are chipping in. Should we include my in-laws on the invitation? What's the right wording?
- Answer:
Traditionally, whoever is hosting the wedding—whether it's the bride's parents, an aunt and uncle, or a combination—is listed on the invitation, regardless of their financial contribution. Times have changed, however, and many couples now list both sets of parents (the bride's are listed first) as a sign of respect. One common structure: "Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stevenson and Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Rabin request the honour of your presence at the wedding of their children Rebecca Ann and Jeremy David..." Your stationer and most etiquette books will have a few alternatives for you, too.
