Question:
My parents are giving me half of what they gave my sister for her wedding last year. This is so unfair! How can I get them to give more?
Answer:

Consider the possibility that your parents may not have the spare cash this time around. If that's the case, they're probably feeling bad about it, so don't press the issue. But you can tell them—nicely—what you were hoping they'd contribute. If they can't manage it, you and your fiancé should put your heads together and figure out how to have a wedding with the money you do have. Cut back on the guest list; switch from a dinner banquet to a three-course lunch. Or postpone the wedding a year to fatten up your savings account—the wedding will be that much sweeter because you will have pulled it together all on your own.
