Valentine's Day Weddings at the Empire State Building
Meet the Couples
Here are the stories of the 14 couples that will wed at the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day
Hailey and Barth
Hailey planned a surprise trip to New York with her fiancé-to-be, Barth, but he planned an even bigger surprise for her when he insisted they go to the top of the Empire State Building, where he proposed to Hailey.
Jessica and Natalie
Jessica and Natalie met in 2005 while they were students at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. The two often visited Natalie’s sister in New York while they were dating and dreamed of one day moving to the city themselves. Now the couple reside in Brooklyn, where they have shared some of their most romantic moments within view of the Empire State Building.
Asherel and Linnell
Groom-to-be Linnell has always been fascinated with the Empire State Building (he even has a tattoo of the structure on his arm), so when the couple became engaged last July, Asherel immediately researched how she and Linnell could be married there. When she found out the couple had been chosen to marry at her fiancé’s beloved building, she surprised him with the exciting news.
Anni and Delon
New York City is a popular destination spot for long-distance couple Anni and Delon, who plan to move there after Delon finishes school in Texas. The couple often joke that much of their relationship is spent in the clouds (Anni lives and works in Michigan), so they thought it would be wonderful to wed in the clouds at the top of the Empire State Building in the city they love.
Heidi and Kevin
Heidi and Kevin met while they were on active duty with the Coast Guard in Florida. Since then their relationship has taken them around the country and now they want to declare their love for each other in front of their families overlooking the country that they serve.
Dodi and Timothy
Dodi and Timothy entered our contest to win a Valentine’s Day wedding at the Empire State Building last year, and when they weren’t chosen they decided to postpone their nuptials another year so they could have another chance to win. That they did—and they will marry in what the couple describe as "the most exciting city" on the most romantic day of the year.
Gena and Bryan
A first date at the Empire State Building turned into a long-term romance for Gena and Bryan, who have lived in several apartments across the Hudson River in New Jersey that all have boasted a view of the Empire State Building. Now they will marry in the building that has always been in sight throughout their relationship. "As long as the Empire State Building is in our view," says the bride-to-be, "we know we are in the right place."
Kimberly and Mathias
Kimberly and Mathias grew up worlds apart, she in Dallas, he in Paris. After meeting in New York the two would use the Empire State Building as the halfway point between their apartments. Now the couple live together within view of the structure and call the building a symbol of their love and strength. "Seeing it stand tall from our roof is always a comfort and joy from our amazing and very different journeys that brought us together," says Kimberly.
Cristina and Joseph
After a girlfriends' getaway weekend to New York went awry when Cristina’s friend was unable to make it to the Big Apple, she called Joseph, the best friend of one of her clients. Fate stepped in and the two embarked on a romantic day complete with brunch on the Upper West Side and dinner in Little Italy. Now the two will marry at the Empire State Building in the city where they met before Joe leaves to live with Cristina in Canada.
Rose and Michael
Rose never thought she would find her soul mate while shopping for a wedding gift for her friend, but that is exactly what happened when Michael’s eyes met Rose’s last January on the streets of New York. The first time Michael said he loved Rose was at the observation deck on top of the Empire State Building, and the two believe it will be the perfect place to exchange vows.
Juanita and Christopher
Juanita and Christopher met in Washington, D.C., where both were stationed while in the military. They instantly clicked when they found that they both had a son named Ethan from previous relationships. The couple learned about Brides.com and the Empire State Building’s Valentine’s Day weddings from a Snapple cap, and they are excited to tie the knot in their favorite city.
Jessica and Tim
Tim surprised Jessica when he proposed to her on the observation deck at the Empire State Building last April. The two have known each other since junior high school but reconnected recently when Jessica’s sister found Tim on MySpace. As a volunteer firefighter, Tim doesn’t have much time to commit to planning a wedding. "Tim is truly my knight in shining armor," says Jessica. "He is a hero, risking his life to save others."
Michael and Yanan
Originally from China, Michael and Yanan met at a party held by a mutual friend in Flushing, Queens, where they realized they were from the same city. Now they are looking forward to getting married in the new country that they call home, in the city where they met.
Robert and Judy
In 1978, Robert proposed to Judy on top of the Empire State Building. He didn’t have a ring, but he knew the time was right, and he told Judy that they couldn’t go back until he could propose the right way, with a ring. Now, 30 years later, Robert has the ring and is ready to renew his vows with Judy at the place where they originally promised to spend the rest of their lives together.
