Simple Mason Jar Arrangement
Event designer Megan Fickling demonstrates how to turn supermarket staples into clever centerpieces.
Simple Mason Jar Arrangement
Transform an ordinary bouquet of flowers and an empty pasta sauce jar into a simple floral arrangement.
Created by: Megan Fickling, La Partie Events, lapartieevents.com; lapartieevents.squarespace.com
Supplies
- 24-ounce glass jar of pasta sauce
- Bouquet of flowers (your choice) from a supermarket, deli, or florist
- Pot of boiling water
- Butter knife
- Gardening shears
- Ribbon
Step 1
Purchase a jar of pasta sauce and a bouquet of flowers (for this project, we used hyacinths).
Step 2
Empty the pasta sauce from the jar (save it for dinner!) and wash the jar. Remove the label by submerging the jar in the boiling water for a few minutes.
Step 3
Scrape the softened label off with a knife.
Step 4
Cut thte stems of your flowers at different lengths to create varying heights.
Final Step
When it's cool, fill the jar with water and arrange the flowers in it. Tie your choice of ribbon (ours was 45 inches long and 3.5 inches wide) around the jar, and there you have it—a lovely arrangement to give as a gift.
