Couture Cake
For a cake that looks good enough to wear, call Shinmin Li, owner of I Dream of Cake, 415-989-2253, idreamofcake.com, a two-year-old cake shop located in San Francisco's North Beach. With a background in both art and pastry design, Li can sculpt cakes in almost any shape imaginable, from designer shoes and purses, like the one shown here, to vintage corsets and sports cars—perfect for a quirky bridal shower or groom's cake. And no request is too outlandish: For a recent wedding, Li even designed a cake in the shape of Jabba the Hut, complete with fondant "warts." Prices begin at $350.
