Frequently Asked Questions for DJs
What music genres are in your collection? 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Orchestra, Pop, R&B, Rock, Soul, Swing
Do you have liability insurance? Yes
Describe your DJ style: I am a professional DJ. I make all necessary announcements and control the flow of the evening very well. Once the formalities are over, I create a fun reception/celebration. I have fun through the music I play, not by wearing cheesy outfits, talking too much on the mic, or trying to get everyone to do the YMCA. (unless you're into that kind of thing.. haha)
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested? Definitely not. I always take requests, and treat all guests with respect. Some DJ's may not play certain requests because they don't listen to that song personally. I think that's silly, If there is a song you or your guests want to hear, I do my best to play it assuming its appropriate and within the bride and grooms format.
What is your usual attire? I believe dressing classy and respectable is important, but I also believe that a tuxedo is a bit overkill. My typical outfit for a wedding consists of: dress slacks and dress shoes, a nice, long sleeve, solid colored dress shirt and a tie. If the client does ask me to wear a suit or tuxedo, I most definitely can and will.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it? I dont require the bride and groom provide any songs unless its a very rare song that is not available on iTunes or on CD. I will purchase whatever songs I do not own, at my own expense. This is part of my "include everything" service.
How many other DJs do you work with? Currently I am an independent operating DJ. When you hire and book RenoMobileDjs, I meet with you initially and work with you all through the planning stages of your wedding, and am ALWAYS the one performing at your wedding. I never have and never will send a random DJ and surprise you with some stranger at your wedding :).
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for? 4 minutes and 38 seconds... what kind of question is this?.. lol
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking? I actually try and meet with clients before booking. I like to meet and sign the contract in person when the client is available to do so. I think that it is important to meet clients so they have the opportunity to meet me and get a feel for my personality. This way they can decide if my personality is a good match for their wedding.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list? Most definitely, the more information a client provides (both requests and a list of do not plays), the better I can understand the clients music tastes.
Do you bring your own equipment? I am 99% self sufficient. The 1% is power.. but that can be solved with a generator. I also have backup equipment, both sound equipment and laptop.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service? I offer a fair amount of lights. Its definitely not a nightclub laser light and fog machine show. But I have a tripod which I can attach multiple lights to which create the perfect amount of light that can fill a room and create the perfect atmosphere for dancing.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on? I use very nice high end equipment which requires very little time for setup. I can typically be unloaded and setup, ready to play music, within 20 minutes. I have my own table, tablecloth, and chair which I bring to every event. If a venue offers to setup a table for me, I am very grateful.
Do you have any extra space requirements? None at all, all I need for a complete setup is a 8 ft by 4 ft area. (10x4 if venue provides 6ft table)
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events? No. Tacky...
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs? I do emcee all events, making all necessary announcements and maintaining the the order of your events and flow of the evening. I do not talk between songs, unless it is a related announcement. I do not shout things like "throw your hands in the air" or silly things like that.. again, I try to balance professionalism and fun. No cheese...
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing? I usually don't have a problem getting people dancing. Its all about understanding the psychology of music, knowing how to read a crowd.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal? I do not take any breaks during an event. I also do not require a break for meals or require a meal from the client. If the client offers a meal for the event, I am very appreciative and can finish real quick without interfering with the event.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day? Never - When you book RenoMobileDjs you are basically booking me for the day.
What is your overtime rate? No such thing... If your event starts a little early, not a problem, I will be there early and ready to go. If everyone is dancing and having a great time and you would like me to stay awhile longer, I always do!
