In the spring of 2009, Lisa accepted the position of Harpist at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, where she performed at least twice daily as a soloist prior to moving to Illinois. She will earn her Masters of Music with Ann Yeung at the University of Illinois School of Music in May of 2011, where she received a full scholarship.
Lisa began studying harp at the age of 12 with Patricia Masri-Fletcher, principal harpist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Prior to college, she spent two summers studying and performing at Interlochen Arts Camp and performed as principal harpist with several youth orchestra, including the Detroit Civic Sinfonia Symphony Orchestra and the Dearborn Youth Symphony. Lisa was chosen to perform as the principal harpist at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival in 2004, where she performed under the direction of conductor Thomas Wilkins. She continued her studies with Gillian Benet Sella, principal harpist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2005, on scholarship. Lisa performed in the Accent Musical Festival at the College-Conservatory of Music in 2007, where she performed with small and large ensemble. She also attended the Saratoga Harp Colony in 2007, where she studied under esteemed Elizabeth Hainen, principal harpist of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
In the summer of 2010, Lisa served as a harp assistant at the Summer Harp Class at the University of Illinois and attended Isabelle Perrin's summer harp workshop in Traverse City, Michigan. In January of 2011, Lisa was a prize winner at the Harp Days! Competition held at Michigan State University. She will also compete in the Lyon and Healy awards competition in June, 2011 in Denton, Texas.
Lisa Kahn has played countless weddings, parties, and other special events and is very experienced as a soloist. She performs from a very large selection of classical, baroque, renaissance, opera, musical theatre, pop and jazz standards.
