Description: Hyak Photography provides an experience that stands out in the mind of our clients long after the photography ends, and makes people see themselves and their own personal beauty in a new way. We provide a creative and fashion-inspired experience, and then turn those memories into tangible artwork for families that bring a feeling of joy every time you look at or touch it for years to come. Your wedding album is the first heirloom of your new family and one of the few decisions from your wedding day that will last a lifetime. John MacDonald Johns passion for photography has followed him since childhood and has earned him a number of professional nicknames over the years. His technical precision and artistic flair enhance his preferred styles; intimate images of faces and epic, wide images where the subject is simultaneously the focus and a piece of a larger puzzle. John is also an accomplished knitter, and is currently fascinated with cashmere & silk ties. What little free time he has left is devoted to his electronics hobby... another lifelong interest. John is also a private pilot and loves to travel, which he often is able to do as a wedding photographer. He is hoping to add continent seven to his list by participating in a photo journey to Antarctica, possibly swinging through Africa again so he and Marcia reach seven together. Marcia MacDonald A vibrant & creative photographer from the Tri-Cities, Marcia provides a sense of whimsy to Johns style. She brings exceptional people skills to the table with a background as a teacher and a masters degree in intercultural ministry. When not photographing, Marcia owns and operates a yarn shop catering to knitting and crocheting. The spring summer season of weddings and senior portraits dovetails well with the autumn and winter nature of yarn sales. Marcia is also well traveled, having added Peru this year, but still needs Africa to get the six major continents. She may join John on a trip to Antarctica some day to round out her set, too.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with? Contemporary, Portraiture
What do your packages include? Albums, Digital Files, Flush Mount, High Resolution Images
Do you have liability insurance? Yes
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning? Long-time specialization in black and white going back to the days of film.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations? We have experience in natural light, low light, off-camera strobe, location lighting, and high-end fashion lighting.
Is your media preference film or digital? While I still have my film cameras for nostalgia, digital has gone far and above the resolution, clarity, and tonal capabilities of almost any 35mm color film. We use only digital cameras at weddings today.
How many photographers do you work with? All of our packages include 2 photographers on the wedding day. Some services involve additional photographers, such as studio photo booths.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event? Absolutely, we have evolved into a husband and wife photography team and both of us take primary responsibility for your wedding photos.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend? All of our wedding packages include at least 8 hours of coverage, we only cover one wedding per day.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of? We use our experience to tailor the specific equipment to the wedding venue and plans. In addition to our cameras we also bring computers, projectors, battery packs, etc. so that we can show your ceremony and creative portraits at your reception.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction? Always. Even the most rugged, expensive, professional gear fails and Murphy says it's going to be at a bad time. Duplicates of everything necessary comes with us to every wedding.
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours? Our packages have enough time for most weddings, but we can always add extra time for special events.
Do you charge for travel? There are no travel charges to most of the United States. For other destinations we will make our own travel and accommodation arrangements for a nominal fee.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing? The first viewing of photos happens with a slideshow at the reception itself. Full proofs are available in approximately two weeks.
In what format are the initial proofs offered? A selection of proofs (approx. 700) are available for viewing in the studio with us and online. The full set (approx. 2,000) of delivered proofs is available at the same time either as DVD proofing or as digital negatives.
How long can the client keep the proofs? Digital negatives or proofing DVDs are yours forever.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos? Copyright release for printing is available with digital negatives, included in most packages.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos? We reserve the right to use images for self-promotion, portfolio, and similar uses.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client? Digital negatives, and printing release, is included in most packages.
Will images be available for viewing online? All packages include online viewing of images in addition to other proofing methods.
What kind of albums do you offer? Your wedding album is your first family heirloom together. We feel that the album is not only the best way to tell the story of your day, but is something that should be both beautiful enough and durable enough to have out on your coffee table every day. Every package comes with a 30-page album. Most packages include a hand-made leather-bound album. For the bride who wants to have a completely customized album, I can personally hand-make the album out of a variety of materials to almost any specification.
When will the client get the final album? Albums are delivered 4-8 weeks after layout is approved. We provide worksheets to make the image selection process painless.
