This is our story of
Heavenly Breads & Sweets
Four words begin our story: It's a God thing.
Many roads led us here. One of the main roads was Scott signing up with the Marine Corp. to learn how to bake (photos of his time in Okinawa and Korea are above our coffee counter). After serving our country and working his way up in the Scott's Foods bakeries, he has baked for 20 years. Rebecca's road for many years was in sales and marketing for various companies and being involved in different aspects of the business world.
The road of dreams of opening our own bakery business began to form in December of 2007. In March of 2008, we met with the Small Business Development Center in Fort Wayne and began creating our business plan.
On Father's Day, 2008 we found the spot for the bakery, next door to Caruso's, kind of by mistake. We were on our way to celebrate with family for Father's Day at Lime Lake when we drove by and noticed that the building was empty. From there we met with the Caruso family and they welcomed us with open arms, a God thing. Now our plans were really taking shape.
In September, the business plan was complete and we went to the bank to get help with the money to open the business. This was when much of the banking industry was beginning to unravel and we thought it was going to be a losing battle, getting the financial help we needed. We did indeed get financing for various reasons, namely the business plan and the excitement and passion we conveyed with our dream of opening a much-needed bakery in Angola. Again It's a God thing.
In December, Scott began the renovations in the totally empty building and plans were made to open in January 2009. Since he was doing the remodeling himself, it was an inch-by-inch process but it was progressing toward to goal of opening our bakery.
Each and every time we wondered whether or not we could pull it off, God sent us reminders from family, friends and sometimes total strangers to cheer us on. They also gave their blood, sweat and tears helping with renovations, moving and cleaning equipment.
Now we are ready to open and we thank God every day for the opportunity to serve the community with our bakery. We are going to work hard to give you the quality and service you deserve; we hope you are as blessed by it as we are going to be blessed by your business.
The stained-glass dove that graces our window was designed and created by Scott's mom before she died of breast cancer a number of years ago. Thank you Carole.
With those same four words we continue our story: It's a God thing.
