Description: First of all, thank you for reading about the Wedding Photography services that we provide. Youve heard it before, but we really do try to defy description. What do we mean by that? Doug and his team provide award-winning wedding photography to discerning clients in Seattle and Tacoma and select destinations. First and foremost, Doug Loates is an artist. He is known principally for his painting and drawing but his photography is rapidly gaining recognition. He brings the same artists eye and sensibility to his photographic process. from your very first meeting with him, you are going to a totally different place than you would with other photographers. He believes in building a relationship with the couples he photographs so the quality of the work will reflect that connection. Your experience with Doug will be unforgettable fun, rewarding, creative, fun, satisfying, relaxing, fun, exhilerating, fun (did I mention fun?) An example of Doug's painting An example of Doug's pencil drawing Doug is a full-time artist and photographer. He does Wedding Photography because he LOVES doing Wedding Photography. (He books only two weddings a month so he can give you the attention that you deserve - to make sure your Wedding gets the photographic coverage that will blow your socks off!) He takes Wedding Photography to a whole new level. And its catching on&.. With the advent of lower cost, semi-pro digital cameras it seems like more and more folks are getting into the game. Most photographers are looking for something that will set them apart. Trendy, edgy post-processing. Funky web-sites. Remarkably low prices. We were sitting around discussing why anyone would choose us to capture their Wedding Story and we kept coming back to the central pillars of our business: - We build trust with our clients by building relationships before the wedding so you have the utmost confidence in our ability to deliver a stunning photography experience. - We make sure that we exceed our clients expectations. - We are emotional, honest and real. We care passionately about the craft but care even more about our friends. - Our clients become our friends. - We WILL have fun! We may not be the trendiest or funkiest choice available to you (although my 28 year old daughter DID say I was pretty cool for an old guy) but you wont forget or regret choosing us to tell your Story! So, if you want a shoot-and-burn photographer, Dougs just not right for you. But, if you want someone to take the time and give your Wedding the attention you KNOW it deserves, give him a call. You wont regret it! The Experience, Even before you decide which photographer to hire, we would like the opportunity to meet with you to help you understand your options. Photography is a crowded and confusing business - you have so many choices to make and being informed will help you avoid disappointment. We believe that selecting a photographer that meets your style and output expectations starts at this first meeting. We know that we wont be a fit with every couple that we meet but we still feel that it is important to provide you with the knowledge, exposure to various options and questions to ask when making this critical decision. We believe that photographing your Wedding should be approached with the same care and attention as creating a piece of fine art. And to be quite frank, this is our competitive advantage. If you decide that we are a fit, we will provide you with computer tools to help you plan your Wedding day. We will meet with you as many times as necessary before your wedding to make sure that we have every detail nailed down. We leave nothing to chance. We encourage you to have a photo session with Doug before the Wedding to help you get used to being in front of the camera. Even though our team uses a blend of photo-journalistic and fashion photography, you will still love and appreciate getting the jitters out of your system! Some of our clients favorite photos come from our engagement sessions. Whether you bring our team on board to provide simple digital coverage of your Wedding or you ask us to provide prints, albums and the whole enchilada, you wont question the care and attention your special day receives. And youll love the experience and the photography! Your photographer should be a master storyteller. Creating the photographic documentation of your special day cant be left to chance. There are no do-overs at a Wedding so bring a photographer on board who can anticipate those magical, emotional moments and has the vision to capture these memories with style, skill and confidence. Doug will create beautiful images of your Wedding that you will cherish for the rest of your life. Period.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with? Contemporary, Photojournalism
What do your packages include? Albums, Flush Mount, Prints
Do you have liability insurance? Yes
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations? Yes. I use the best Nikon digital cameras in the industry that can shoot in very low light (I prefer to use available light) but also have extensive experience using off-camera flash set-ups with either Nikon Speedlites of high power strobes.
Is your media preference film or digital? While my preference is to use full sensor digital cameras, I also use 35mm and medium format film cameras, depending on the client and shooting situation. (My brides think film is "cool and retro"! Man that makes me feel old!)
How many photographers do you work with? I prefer to shoot alone. No one else has my point of view or my exact sensibility. I do work with two other shooters when needed, but I find that adding more cameras makes for a more variable finished product. I work with my clients to craft a schedule that allows me to get the images that we want.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event? Yes.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend? I will book numerous portrait or family sessions on the same day but I make it a rule not to book anything the day before or on the day of a Wedding that I am shooting. Shooting a Wedding requires a clear head and rested body!
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event? Yes. I have a network of professionals that I have shot with in the past that I trust to pick up the job in the event I get run over by a truck....
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of? Two full sensor Nikon DSLR camera bodies. One Nikon 35mm film camera body. If needed, my Mamiya RZ67 medium format film camera. Usually ten to twelve fast lenses - primes, zooms, macros & telephotos. Light modifiers - reflectors, scrims & stands Off camera lighting - 4 Nikon Speedlites + Pocketwizard triggers. Two or three Photogenic strobe lights & stands. Water, snacks, survival kit, fancy hanger for Wedding dress.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction? Yes!!!
Do you charge hourly or full day? I charge by the event.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal? In my Wedding contract, it stipulates a meal but I have been known to actually forget to even drink water during the Wedding so this is pretty flexible...
Do you charge for travel? Yes if the Wedding is more than 60 miles from my studio.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing? Depending on the package selected, proofs are available for viewing in two to six weeks.
In what format are the initial proofs offered? Depending on the package selected, proofs are available in an online website (www.pictage.com) and a hardcover proof book.
How long can the client keep the proofs? The online website is live for three months after the Wedding and the proof book is the clients to keep.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos? Yes. Always.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos? Yes.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client? I provide low resolution files to the client when the album is delivered.
Will images be available for viewing online? Yes.
What kind of albums do you offer? Depending on the package purchased, I offer the finest flushmount albums handcrafted by Graphistudio in Italy or handbound books from Couture Book.
When will the client get the final album? This depends on how quickly the client selects images and approves the album layouts. Album lead-time varies by manufacturer from two to ten weeks.
