Frequently Asked Questions for DJs
What music genres are in your collection? 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Acoustic, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Folk, Funk, Gospel, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Orchestra, Pop, Punk Rock, R&B, Rock, Soul, Strings, Swing, World
Do you have liability insurance? Yes
Describe your DJ style: My style is unobtrusive and fun. Its your wedding, and no one is coming to see me, so I keep the focus on you, where it belongs. I use my experience gained as a club DJ to motivate people to dance by playing the perfect song at the perfect time.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested? Absolutely not!
What is your usual attire? My attire varies wedding by wedding, based in no small part on the location and the wishes of the couple, but its always appropriate.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it? No, it's my job to provide the music.
How many other DJs do you work with? A wedding only happens once and needs to go just as the couple has envisioned. For this reason despite a huge demand to expand I am the only DJ, because I am the only one I trust to get it right.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for? no minimum
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking? YES! Its extremely important to me that I am a good fit for the clients I work with. I believe the best way to do that is to meet and get to know each other. While this isnt always possible with brides from out of the area at the time of booking, I do meet with them before the wedding in person.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events? No
Can the client submit a do-not-play list? Absolutely!
Do you bring your own equipment? Yes. In addition to bringing my own equipment I also bring backup equipment even though I have never had an equipment failure. In large part that is due to the equipment being on a 3 year replacement plan when applicable.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service? I have a large selection of computer controlled lighting and lasers for the dance-floor that are included with the DJ service. I also offer optional up-lighting and custom monogram projection.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on? The time required to setup varies with what we are setting up. It can range between 2-6 hours We always provide our own tables.
Do you have any extra space requirements? This also varies, but a 4x10 space on the edge of the dance-floor is ideal. If we are providing option services additional space may be required.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events? Nope, I find them to be tacky.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs? As your emcee I not only provide your guests with the information that they want in a professional manor, I also control the flow of events. To me the perfect wedding moves along fast enough to keep your guests engaged and entertained, but also slow enough that you are not rushed from one thing to the next. Its a hard thing to do right, but I am told I am the best at it. Once the open dancing starts people want music, they dont want to listen to me talk.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing? The few times this has happened to me, fixing it was as easy as just changing the music up. If that didn't work I know a number of icebreaker dances to fall back on.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal? I'm human, every once in a blue moon I need to visit the little DJs room, but other than that I don't take breaks. I also don't eat at weddings.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks? N/A
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event? In 10 years and over 500 weddings I have never been late for a wedding, but I do have a plan in place for a substitute DJ just in case I get hit by a bus.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day? No
What is your overtime rate? no charge for overtime. That's like a tax on fun
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge? I do not charge for travel expenses within a 200 mile radius of Spokane, WA. If the event is more than 200 miles away then it is included in the quoted price.
What is the required deposit to secure your services? My booking fee is $250
