Description:
Three Generations of restaurant and catering in Santa Cruz, California. My grandparents started Adolphs on Front Street in 1940, which at the time was called Italian-American Hotel. It was a bar, restaurant and a boarding house. In December of 1959 my father and his brother, Robert and Rudolph Camarlinghi, opened a bar on Water street. In January of 1960 the restaurant side had opened, it became known as Adolphs Family Style Restaurant. In the seventys and up until Adolphs sold, the family did catering all around Santa Cruz county including: Coconut Grove, Santa Cruz County Fair and many other large events at the fair grounds. The Camarlinghi family all worked in the restaurant until it sold in 1982. My Cousins Mark Camarlinghi and Barbara Aluffi went on to open Dannys Diner in 1985 on Soquel Drive. The restaurant was open on the week days, and on weekends they started the catering business. The restaurant was sold in 1995 and the catering became full time. In 2007 they sold the business to me, Marina Camarlinghi and my partner Victor Cuevas-Sanchez. Twenty years of Barbara & Company Catering and still going strong. The Family lives on.
