Lighting Effects
Hiring a lighting designer may not rank as high on your list of priorities as, say, hiring a caterer, but it should. "Lighting can transform a room and really make all of the elements pop," says lighting designer Jon Retsky of Got Light?, 415-863-4300, got-light.com. "This wedding was held at a pretty unattractive community center, which is exactly the kind of space that really benefits from lighting," says Retsky. For a modern glow, he hung multicolored lanterns. Also, he "pinspotted" the tables, shining a subtle white light on the centerpieces and other tabletop details. "If you’re splurging on linens and flowers and you’re not pinspotting them, they will disappear into the darkness, no matter how many votives you have," says Retsky.
