Local and Luscious
We’re happily noticing that more and more local caterers and bakeries are specializing in food made with locally produced, freshly prepared ingredients. One of our recent favorites? Kara’s Cupcakes, 415-563-2253, karascupcakes.com, a San Francisco bakery where virtually all the ingredients used to make the from-scratch confections are sourced locally and support premium artisanal producers in Northern California, like Scharffen Berger Chocolate, Petaluma Farm Fresh Eggs and Guistos Organic Flour. These little beauties would be adorable boxed up as favors or towering in lieu of cake. Mouthwatering flavors include Raspberry Dazzle, a chocolate cupcake frosted with fresh pink raspberry buttercream, and Kara’s Karrot, a carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting. Cost: $5 each.
