Day seven
Check out of Birkenhead House at 11 a.m. and drive for a couple of hours toward Stellenbosch, taking in the Spier Cheetah Outreach Sanctuary (R310 Lynedoch Road; +27-21-809-1100) en route. Eat lunch on the edge of the veranda at Tokara Restaurant (Helshoogte Pass-glen Arum Road; +27-21-808-5959), between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and send home a case of wine from its vineyard. Afterward, drive back to Stellenbosch and check into Hawksmoor House, where you can enjoy a leisurely late meal of South African fare.
