Our editors teamed up with TripAdvisor to find the best Mexican resorts for your post-wedding getaway — think lying on a beach in Cancun or exploring the Mayan ruins!
Whether you choose the West Coast's Baja Peninsula, with its lush green golf courses, frothy coastline with rocky outcroppings, and Hollywood-star-filled luxury resorts, or head east for Mayan ruins, underground caves called cenotes, snorkeling reefs, and sweat-lodge ceremonies, there's no excuse for ever being bored at a Mexican resort.
The best local food includes fried-fish tacos, fresh guacamole mashed in a molcajete in front of your eyes, tuna ceviche spiked with lime and cilantro, and cochinita pibil (Yucatan pork marinated with achiote and baked in banana leaves), and it all just plain rocks. And the music — which is sometimes played by a spirited mariachi band — is equally lively. It's also worth taking the time to hunt down Mexican-made crafts, from pottery to embroidered tablecloths, from other parts of the country to feather your newlywed nest with when you return home.
That said, we love Mexico's beachfront properties as much for what they're like when you do nothing at all as for what you can find when you want to be entertained. Sip a tequila-spiked margarita with plenty of lime and a little salt, a mix of beer and Bloody Mary called a michelada, or a classic piña colada made better with the addition of fresh coconut milk, and whether you laze in a lounge chair by the pool or a hammock strung between palm trees just past the edge of where the surf washed up on the sand, feel yourself relax like you've never relaxed before.
