Recent bridal runways have proven one thing to be very true: White is no longer the only option for brides-to-be. Everything from pink, blue, and even black dresses have emerged recently, but there's another burgeoning trend from this varied spectrum of wedding dress shades: metallic.
An ultra-glam alternative to classic ivory or white, some of our favorite wedding dress designers showed an array of dresses in gold, silver, copper, pewter, and bronze.
Whether you're a party girl at heart or want a statement-making reception dress, a gold or silver gown works well for both formal parties and lively laidback bashes. Plus, the metallic trend works with a variety of silhouettes and styles from a gilded ball gown and a silver silk vintage-inspired slip to a short sequin-embellished shift.
Don't want to go for the gold all the way? Incorporate a glistening accent à la Jessica Simpson. Carolina Herrera sent a gold-flecked tulle gown down her runway, while Claire Pettibone opted for a gold-lace overlay. Lazaro chose a gilded hand-painted overlay for the bodice of one of its ball gown, and Naeem Khan presented two gowns with shiny metallic detailing. Even some champagne-shaded sheaths, like that of Maggie Sottero or Jenny Packham, and ivory satin skirts courtesy of Reem Acra offer a subtle midas touch.
To sum it up: stay golden (and silver!), wedding dress designers.
