"My husband Scott runs a Great Dane rescue, so it was pretty much a given that we'd have dogs at the wedding. Blue, our ring bearer, was a Dane that had never been adopted, probably because he had a spinal cord condition that made it difficult for him to walk and stand normally. Blue had been at the rescue so long that he'd pretty much become Scott's dog. (And, of course, Scott's willingness to rescue dogs and care for even the hardest cases, no matter what, was one of the reasons I fell in love with him.) Despite his wobbly and staggering gait, Blue was a super friendly, confident, and curious guy who always wanted to be in the middle of all the action. However, all of the festivities that weekend had him pretty exhausted and he slept through most of the ceremony—including when Scott retrieved the ring from his collar. But his presence felt like a wonderful blessing."
