After a year and a half of dating Mike and three years of living only eight blocks from him without knowing it, Alyssa knew that a proposal from Mike was looming. What she didn’t know was that Mike had gotten the diamond from her grandmother’s engagement ring and the smaller side stones from his grandmother’s engagement ring and was planning to create a personalized wedding ring just for her.
After a night out to dinner with friends, Alyssa returned home to find her apartment filled with flowers and a plate that held two fortune cookies. Mike, who collects fortunes from cookies at Chinese restaurants, asked Alyssa to open one. The fortune read, "Will you marry me?" and as Alyssa turned around to Mike, she saw him pull out the ring.
The couple knew they needed a large venue to accommodate their almost 300-person guest list, and being in New York they wanted to avail themselves of the beautiful views the city had to offer. Alyssa and Mike chose to marry at Bridgewaters at South Street Seaport as soon as they saw it. Breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge quickly brought together a New York theme, while the late-October affair inspired a color palette of chocolate brown with deep red and orange flowers to accent.
